Archer Vineyards (Newberg, Oregon)
For a party of six in July, Archer Vineyard was a green oasis that transported us out of Oregon, which is what we wanted during a lockdown.
Located in Newberg, Oregon, just outside of Portland, it was the perfect location for a birthday celebration. The too-good-to-be-true scenery was of course complimented by the delicious wine and rare sunshine, and honestly, if you would’ve tried to convince me I was suddenly in the Italian countryside, I probably would’ve believed you.
It was an incredibly easy visit, and I found myself feeling relaxed and at home.
Their signature flight featured a little taste of nearly every type of wine they produce, from Rosé to Pinot Noir, and was accompanied by a knowing description from a well educated and friendly staff member.
Our flight fee was waived with a two bottle purchase (hell yeah) and we munched on everything they had. No really, we nearly cleaned out their kitchen.
Being red lovers, we bought a couple of the wonderfully dry 2017 Hopewell Pinot Noirs as well as a juicy 2019 Willamette Valley Pinot Gris after our tasting experience and got the full use of our allotted time slot while we sipped under the leafy trees on the patio.
They had so many spots to chill, from their lovely and shaded patio area to comfortable wooden lawn chairs down near the vines, just in case you want to feel closer to the magic.
For a pandemic visit, we definitely didn’t feel restricted (though they still very much followed the rules), and I would recommend this estate to anyone, pandemic or not.
